New Year’s Daybook

January 3rd, 2009 by Arielle

I stole this idea from one of my favorite mama bloggers:

Outside My Window ...
The golden sunrise over the Philadelphia skyline
***
I am listening to…
One of my favorite hymns, O Pure Virgin by St. Nektarios, sung by the Boston Byzantine Choir and on repeat.
***
Towards rhythm and beauty ...
I am working on getting back a rhythm of prayer and of keeping my home beautiful.
***
I am thankful for
My sweet husband and the little seven-week old life I am carrying.
***
From the kitchen
I am baking bread in a bit, and hoping it comes out right this time. I also have to go grocery shopping after throwing out everything in our fridge after being gone for two weeks, but my husband mysteriously absconded with the grocery money. Good thing I know he’s not a gambling man.
***
To live the liturgy…
I am trying to be more mindful of the liturgy of each day, and remember to incorporate it into my prayers. While it was lovely to be in Colorado for Christmas, it meant we got out of our prayer/reading/church rhythm right during a holy season. Yesterday was the feast of my name saint, St. Juliana of Lazarevo, so I will say her Akathist today. It is also the 10th Day of Christmas, and the feast of the Prophet Malachi, so maybe I will read some of the Book of Malachi later.
***
I am creating ...
A baby. And bread. And maybe later I’ll work on the little green baby sweater I’ve been knitting.
***
Towards a real education
I finally finished the Plato dialogues I started reading three months ago. I’m not reading anythin particularily educational right now (see below), but I think The Iliad and Odyssey might be next. I AM married to a Classics scholar hoping to specialize in Homer after all.
***
Bringing beauty to my home
I am mostly just hoping to uncover my home from all the clutter.
***
I am readingĀ  …
A few things:
I started David Copperfield over Christmas. It is one of Paul’s all-time favorite books, and so far it may be one of mine to. I also am nearly done with The Way of a Pilgrim and just started reading the enormous Father Seraphim Rose: His Life and Works, since my friend (and marriage sponsor) Geoff just returned from Fr. Seraphim’s monastery in Platina and recommended I read it. It may take a while, being 1,058 pages. David Copperfield is over 800, so I may be at both of them a while.
***
I am hoping
The little kidney bean gives me a sign s/he’s okay in there. I have no more morning sickness or anything, so I’m starting to think I imagined the whole thing.
***
Around the house
As soon as I get up, I’m starting The List: two loads of laundry, make the bed, clean the kitchen, clear the table, general clutter patrol, and then hunkering down to my neglected thank-you notes.

***
One of my favorite things
My new shiney copper tea kettle from Paul.

***
A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week:
Church tonight at Our Lady the Joy of All Who Sorrow downtown, church tomorrow, probably at St. Philip’s in Souderton or at our normal parish, St. Stephen’s Cathedral. I go back to work on Monday (sigh). Hopefully we will find time for Theophany services as well.

Here is a picture thought I am sharing~

Paul and I in the woods near his parents house. We’re off to cut a Christmas tree.

Yay! Congratulations on the kidney bean! I found your site through Xenia Kathryn’s. I have a two month old, and being a mother is the best! Don’t worry too much about your little munchkin- I had no sickness until three or four months and no kicks for the longest time. But now I have a very fiesty little girl who definetly lets me know when something is up. I hope everything goes well for you, cherish every moment of your pregnancy- even if you get sick. Pray and read alot to the baby, and she will recognize it when she is born. My husband always says the Akathist to the Mother of God at bedtime, and our little one immediatly knew his voice and loves that part of our routine.
    Hooray again!
